ROH TV Recap (2/29): Major Upset, Silas Young Puts Career On The Line, Top Prospect Tourney, More

Welcome to Wrestling Inc's coverage of Ring of Honor TV. This week's episode was taped well before last Friday's ROH 14th Anniversary PPV. Don't forget to tune into Wednesday's Wrestling Inc Podcast where we'll talk ROH, Lucha Underground, NXT, and much more non-Raw Wrestling!

Silas Young & Beer City Bruiser vs. The Boys

Dalton Castle attacks Young and Bruiser and is removed from ringside. Young gets on the mic and says they'll teach The Boys a lesson about being men, and if they don't win, he'll leave ROH. The Boys, who I can't tell apart, get early offense before the Bruiser stops one dead in his tracks ahead of the commercial break.

We come back to see BCB eat an enziguri and a tornado DDT for two. Silas DDTs one of the Boys into the buckle, but gets sent outside. BCB gets caught coming off the top, but the move is botched and it's only good for two. Either way, The Boys follow up with a flip to the outside, where one Boy is standing on the other's shoulders. The other Boy moonsaults to the outside onto both opponents.

Young makes it back in the ring to punt his opponent in the face. The Boys hit a facebuster and a double team legdrop, but BCB takes out both of them in the corner with a cannonball. Silas Young gets the pin.

Winner: Silas Young & Beer City Bruiser via pinfall (Cannonball)

That was a fun match with some stakes.

Top Prospect Tournament
Brian Fury vs. Action Ortiz

Action Ortiz sends fury outside and hits a crazy flip through the ropes that is good for a two count. Fury runs through Ortiz and knocks him down, but Ortiz quickly regains the advantage with a sliding back suplex for a two count. Ortiz drops Fury, but Fury accidentally kicks Ortiz between the legs and gets the Sky High for the win.

Winner: Brian Fury via pinfall (Sky High)

After the match, Fury says he'll win the tournament, and neither Punisher Martinez or Lio Rush have anything he hasn't seen before.

Top Prospect Tournament
Lio Rush vs. Punisher Martinez

Rush attacks but Martinez no-sells everything. Whenever Martinez goes for something, Rush dodges or counters it. This goes on for a solid minute in a good series until Martinez is dropped into the buckle. Martinez catches Rush but gets kicked in the face and Rush hits a twisting senton to the outside. Rush gets caught again, and Martinez lands a rope hung jawbreaker before destroying Rush with elbows in the corner.

Martinez gets a two with an Okada-style neckbreaker, then connects with a boot from the second rope. Rush goes outside, but Martinez flies over the top with an insane dive. Back inside, Martinez hits a spin kick, but Rush finds a way to kick out. Martinez goes up top to hit a chokeslam, but Rush hits a Spanish Fly for the win.

Winner: Lio Rush via pinfall (Spanish Fly)

That was a fantastic match. ROH should sign both of them. Rush says he feels beat up and broken, but he's been beaten up and broken and he's never let it stop him.

Adam Cole vs. Matt Sydal

The two stifle each other until a Sydal spin kick takes Cole out, then applies an inverted STF. Cole recovers and drops Sydal's head across the apron before teasing tossing Sydal into the guardrail, but instead flipping off the crowd. He then teases a big move and instead applies a headlock.

We come back from commercial to see Sydal fighting back, hitting the slice and a standing moonsault for two. The action spills outside, where Sydal is disgustingly wheelbarrow suplexed into the apron for two. Cole counters a moonsault with a Codebreaker, then lands a shining wizard, but Sydal kicks out, per usual.

Cole goes up top, but Sydal jumps up and finds success with the rana. Cole avoids him in the corner and locks on the Figure 4. Sydal reverses the pressure, but Cole gets to the ropes. Sydal hits a spin kick, then three Cole superkicks stun Sydal, who comes back with a reverse rana. Sydal gets the shooting star press and beats Adam Cole!
