Jon Jones On Daniel Cormier Trilogy, TJ Dillashaw Still Wants Rematch, UFC 235 Fight Off
- UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier have one of the more intriguing rivalries in MMA history. Jones is technically 2-0 vs. Cormier all-time, but the results have been changed due to failed drug tests by "Bones." Now that he is back, and Cormier is nearing a self-imposed retirement, many want to see a third and final meeting between the two.
"Bring out the checkbook, Dana (White)," Jones said during an interview with MMA Fighting after a recent press conference. "Let's make it happen. I'll definitely do it for the right number."
Jones is set to return to action on March 2 at UFC 235 when he tackles top contender Anthony Smith. He was granted a one-fight license by the Nevada Athletic Commission, and must still adhere to multiple drug tests to gain his full fight license. Cormier, meanwhile, has no title defense set to date.
"At 205 pounds, it's a no-brainer that I'll do it," Jones said. "I'm there to fight the next best guy. But to fight at heavyweight, I think it would take some serious convincing."
- Former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw was a guest on the Joe Rogan Experience MMA Show recently to discuss his loss to Henry Cejudo for the belt. Dillashaw suffered a first round knockout defeat, a stoppage he protested in the Octagon and immediately after the fans had cleared the arena.
Dillashaw was highly critical of the referee in charge for the bout, Kevin Macdonald. And while Dillashaw might believe him to inexperienced, Macdonald has over 5 years of working as an MMA referee and teaches courses in both refereeing and judging, according to MMA Fighting.
"To be honest, I didn't know who (the referee) was," Dillashaw said. "I think he's really inexperienced. Watching him ref, he was jumping around as soon as the commotion happened, looking for a reason to stop it. That's the part that bugs me more. I was there, it was a shot that hit me behind the head, and then a controversial stoppage, so it's a rough one to swallow."
Dillashaw added that he would fight Cejudo "tomorrow" at "whatever weight he wants." It remains unknown at this time if Cejudo will be forced to relinquish one of his two titles.
- During a press conference to promote UFC 235, Holly Holm and Aspen Ladd were missing from the event. UFC president Dana White confirmed that plans for the fight between the two bantamweights are no longer on the table, leaving many to wonder if Holm will challenge Amanda Nunes next.
